Mostafa Fatehi Hassanabad is one of 15 science students who were awarded an Undergraduate Summer Research Award (USRA) from NSERC (the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council) for 2009. Mostafa's research project, computer simulation study of polymer translocation through a nanopore, was supervised by Dr. James Polson, Associate Professor, Department of Physics.
William Scott is one of 15 science students who were awarded an Undergraduate Summer Research Award (USRA) from NSERC (the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council) for 2009. William's research project, A polymer in a Brownian motor, was supervised by Dr. James Polson, Associate Professor, Department of Physics.
Todd MacKenzie is working towards a BSc (Hons) in the Department of Physics at UPEI. He is from Canoe Cove, PEI. Todd is one of 26 science students at UPEI who were awarded an Undergraduate Summer Research Award (USRA) from NSERC (the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council) for 2008. His research project, Confinement effect on animal movement in complex corridors, was supervised by Dr Sheldon Opps, Department of Physics, and Dr Marina Silva, Department of Biology.
Mostafa Fatehi is working towards an Honours BSc in Physics and a Majors BSc in Math at the University of Prince Edward Island. He moved here about 5 years ago, and now lives in Charlottetown with his family. He is one of 26 science students at UPEI who were awarded an Undergraduate Summer Research Award (USRA) from NSERC (the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council) for 2008. Mostafa's research project, Computer simulation of translocation of a polymer through a membrane pore, was supervised by Dr. James Polson, Associate Professor, Department of Physics.
Michelle MacPhee is a Physics major at UPEI, and is from Canoe Cove PEI. She is one of 26 science students at UPEI who were awarded an Undergraduate Summer Research Award (USRA) from NSERC (the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council) for 2008. Michelle's research project, Optoacoustic Imaging of Thermal Damage, was supervised by Dr. Bill Whelan, Associate Professor, Department of Physics.
Keaghan Rilling is a Physics major from Mayfield PEI, and is one of 26 science students at UPEI who were awarded an Undergraduate Summer Research Award (USRA) from NSERC (the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council) for 2008. Keaghan's research project, Collapse and Freezing Transitions for Single Heteropolymers, was supervised by Dr. Sheldon Opps, Associate Professor, Chair, Department of Physics.
Since 2003, the UPEI Physics Co-op Education program has offered students the opportunity to integrate academic knowledge and workplace experience. This innovative approach to learning allows students to develop a broad skill set that will prepare them for careers in government, industry, and academic environments.
At present, the PEI Department of Innovation and Advanced Learning is offering a wage subsidy (50%) for
Co-op students working in the private-sector priority areas of Bioscience, Renewable Energy, Aerospace, and IT. This gives Island companies an incentive to hire students in these growing economic industries.
There are currently six Physics students participating in the Co-op Education program. Four of the six are working in PEI:
- three are doing research in three areas in the Physics Department
- one is doing research with Phyterra Bio...
