An innovative Student Success Program developed by Student Services director Tamara Leary caught the attention of MISR University in Cairo. While there, Tamara met Charlie, the camel!
UPEI freshmen raised over $23,500 for cystic fibrosis research during the 2009 Shinerama campaign this fall. UPEI has been involved in Shinerama since 1977.
Each year UPEI is involved with hosting a Student Leadership Symposium for senior high school students from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and PEI. The intent is recruitment and community realtionship development. This symposium celebrates youth leadership and emphasizes how students can learn to make a positive impact on important world issues. Participants are able to share their concerns and ideas in small-group sessions that explore a range of topical issues related to leadership, including social action, international outreach, and environmental stewardship.
This annual event, hosted by the UPEI Department of Student Services, provides UPEI students with the opportunity to become better acquainted with the various organizations in their community, and to encourage volunteerism.
In addition to UPEI students learning more about the various programs and services available, there is an opportunity for you to learn more about becoming a volunteer with various organizations. Often students would like to volunteer but are unsure about how to proceed. At the same time, community organizations would like an opportunity to actively recruit volunteers for various activities but may not have the resources to do so. The Community Connector Fair helps to bridge that gap.
Groups seeking volunteers at this year's fair include:
- AIDS PEI
- Alzheimer Society of Prince Edward Island
- Big Brothers Big Sisters PEI
