The L.M. Montgomery Institute liaises with on-campus groups and organizations in the greater community in order to further its goals of research and education. Two groups with which the Institute works on a regular basis are the Heirs of L.M. Montgomery Inc. and the L.M. Montgomery Heritage Society.
The Institute collaborates with a variety of community partners to research and develop a wide range of activities, festivals, theatre productions, L.M. Montgomery conferences, Seawords creative writing workshop, and a web-based General Store.
More than 700 people from over 150 countries around the world are members of the Kindred Spirits electronic mailing list dedicated to the discussion of the works and life of L.M. Montgomery. The listserv was established in November 1994 by three pioneering Montgomery fans, and it came to the L.M. Montgomery Institute at UPEI in the spring of 1995. An active venue for Montgomery scholars and enthusiasts from all over the world, the Kindred Spirits listserv is an important tool for fostering and expanding the worldwide knowledge and love of Montgomery and her writing. A sampling of countries currently represented on the list includes Canada, the United States, England, Scotland, Australia, Japan, Sweden, Denmark, New Zealand, China, Finland, the Netherlands, Italy, and Norway.
