The Tourism Research Centre (TRC) is located in the UPEI School of Business and provides Prince Edward Island’s tourism industry with the knowledge, expertise, and research tools required for the Island to establish itself as a premier tourist destination.

The TRC increases tourism research capacity on PEI. In an ever-evolving tourism industry, there is a constant need to inquire about trends and evolving tastes as well as to test assumptions and ideas. The TRC's mandate is to conduct quality tourism research and lead in tourism research education. The TRC analyzes available tourism data; produces industry, government, and academic reports; and broadly distributes value-added information to stakeholders in the industry.

The Centre identifies opportunities and issues that might have an impact on the province’s tourism industry. This research assists tourism’s decision-makers in developing forward-looking tourism strategies. This is achieved with the help and partnership of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), Tourism PEI (TPEI), the Tourism Industry Association (TAC) of PEI, tourism operators, and other industry stakeholders. The TRC does not replace or duplicate work being completed by these partners, but rather adds to existing tourism materials with deeper knowledge and research information for the stakeholders.

Since the TRC commenced operations in September 2006, various partnerships have developed. Projects can be as small as a simple discussion about market intelligence needs or a research project including questionnaire development, research field work, and analysis.
